Manitoba History
In order to promote an understanding of our present and where we are
going as Manitobans it is important to understand our past and the contributions
made by those who have gone before us in creating the Manitoba we live
in today.
I sincerely hope that the history portion of our website will enable
you to look back into the history of Manitoba through links with history
organizations, read my history pick of the week, and check
out our calendar of upcoming history events, and some
suggested reading.

For nearly 85 years, Winnipeg has been home to The
Beaver: Canada’s History Magazine, a publication of Canada’s
National History Society. We are proud to highlight some of the recent
Manitoba stories that have appeared inside the pages of this exceptional
popular history magazine.
For over 125 years, the Manitoba
Historical Society has been promoting public awareness of
our province’s rich history. We are pleased to feature excerpts from its
many publications, including the MHS Transactions, Manitoba Pageant, and
Manitoba History.
