Second Floor - The Royal Bedroom
- The beauty of the Royal Bedroom was restored in the major renovations
to the residence in 1999. The furniture was refinished and reupholstered.
The fabrics were chosen for their various gold and rose tones and rich
burgundy shades.
- Used by Queen Elizabeth when she visited as Princess and later with
her husband, following her coronation. Prince Philip stayed in 1967
when he opened the Pan-Am Games and again in 1978 to receive the International
Award from St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation. Prince
Charles and Princess Anne stayed at Government House in 1970 when they
visited the province for Manitoba's 100th birthday celebrations. Princess
Anne also stayed in the Royal Bedroom on her second visit to Manitoba
in 1982 and used it again in 1999 when she was here for the Pan American
Games.
- Other Royals who have used the room are King George VI and Queen Elizabeth;
King George V and Queen Mary; the Duke of Windsor when he was the Prince
of Wales; The Duke of Kent; and Princess Margaret. Other distinguished
guests have included Winston Churchill, Sarah Bernhardt, John Philip
Sousa, Gracie Fields, Billy Graham, Lord Louis Mountbatten and many
more.
