CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION SHOW
WITH CHONGQING ACROBATIC TROUPE

Pantages Playhouse
Saturday, February 12, 2011 – 7:00 p.m.

Friends, Manitobans, dancers, musicians, acrobats and lovers of the rich culture of China – it is a pleasure to join you in welcoming the Year of the Rabbit in style.

Tonight we are continuing an ancient tradition of welcoming the beginning of a new lunar new year.

For more than 4,700 years, families and friends have gathered to celebrate and share wishes for health and good fortune.

Manitoba doesn’t have many traditions that can be traced 4,700 years.

But the Pantages Playhouse does have a tradition that is nearly 100 years old of hosting diverse talents from around the world and from just around the corner.

Tonight, the Chongquing Acrobatic Troupe and performers from Great Wall Performing Arts music and dance classes will keep that tradition alive.

One of the many wonderful things about Manitoba’s cultural tradition is that beauty and talent and artistic expression of all kinds is valued here – and has taken centre stage right here at the Pantages.

And that spirit keeps cultures of all kinds thriving here.

As Mahatma Gandhi said “No culture can live if it attempts to be exclusive.” All our cultures thrive here, because all value being part of such a vibrant city and province.

As Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba I wish you a wonderful evening as you enjoy the talents and dedication of tonight’s performers and a healthy, happy Year of the Rabbit.
