LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES
SCHOOL CLASSROOM TEACHER AWARDS

 

In a special ceremony at Government House today, two classroom teachers were presented with Lieutenant Governor's medals for excellence in teaching at the elementary and high school levels in Manitoba on Friday, June 10, 2005, at Government House in Winnipeg at 7:00 p.m. to announce the recipients of the 2005 Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba School Classroom Teacher Awards.

The recipient of the 2005 Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba Elementary School Classroom Teacher Award is Lorna Kopelow, Richer School, Richer, MB., and the winner of the High School Teacher Award is Mel Ham, Glenboro School, Glenboro, MB.

Speaking at the ceremony, His Honour the Honourable John Harvard, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, commended Mrs. Kopelow and Mr. Ham for their outstanding dedication and commitment to the promotion of teaching excellence.

Lorna Kopelow and Mr. Ham have been school teachers for several years and the nominations noted that they have contributed greatly to the promotion of teaching excellence in the classroom. Parents and students alike admire and respect these teachers, and there were many positive comments about their dedication and stimulating relationship with students.

RBC, Canada Post and Friesens sponsor the awards that recognize exceptional achievement of teachers who have demonstrated excellence in elementary and high school classroom teaching in Manitoba.
